Curtain poles vs curtain tracks
Should I choose a pole or a track?
Curtain poles are a more traditional choice. With multiple hanging options, various choice of rings and gliders and the option for eyelet curtains, they are very versatile. A similar option to eyelet is wave curtains – offering a similar finished result but more advanced design and functionality. However, do bear in mind that eyelets are not ideal for bay windows as the rings will struggle to pass by the brackets.
Accessorise with different coloured finials, midials and holdbacks if you are looking to make more of a statement. You can also choose a diameter depending on whether you want a bold or minimal appearance.
On the other hand, curtain tracks offer a more discreet, minimal appearance, bending at a tighter radius so ideal for small spaces or awkward angles. Tracks are more versatile as they are suitable for any type of fixing, whereas poles with rings can be more limiting; not ideal for top fixing.
With smoother running than poles, due to roller gliders, curtain tracks can be the best option for ease and practicality when drawing your curtains. An exception is our metropole, advanced technology means that it has the appearance of a pole with the functionality of a track.
What do I need to set up my pole or track?
It is recommended to use ten rings per metre when purchasing a curtain pole with rings. If opting for a pole with gliders, you will need to choose a suitable glider type when you come to purchase your pole. However, glider poles only work with curtains with hooks.
If you have a bay window, you may require a custom bent pole with c-rings and passing brackets to allow for smooth drawing of your curtains.
Our tracks and metropole both come with 10 gliders per metre, included in the price as well as one bracket for every 60cm. Brackets are also needed for fixing your pole and track into place, take a look at our glossary to explore the different types available and which one is right for you.

Size and Fit
How can I get the correct length pole or track?
Be sure to follow our separate guide when measuring and ordering your curtain poles or tracks.
The way this is done depends on the shape of the window you are measuring. Bay windows, for example, have multiple angles and can be awkward, so would be measured differently to a standard, square window.
Allow 15-30cm either side for straight windows that aren’t in recess. Also, consider the length that accessories such as finials may add.
Which diameter curtain pole should I choose?
The diameter selected depends on how prominent you would like the pole to appear. For tall windows, a larger diameter is better suited. On the other hand, more delicate fabrics work well with smaller diameters. With eyelet curtains, it is important to choose a diameter that will fit into the eyelets and allow room for the curtain to easily be pulled along the pole.
Although important to the functioning of the curtain, pole diameter does not determine strength.
