Woman measuring a window for her curtains

Wave curtains effortlessly infuse modern elegance into any room, but achieving the perfect fit requires precise measurements. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you measure your windows accurately for wave curtains:

Understanding Wave Curtains

Wave curtains are designed to gracefully drape along curtain tracks and poles equipped with glider channels. When ordering custom-made wave curtains, it's essential to focus on two key measurements:

  1. Pole or Track Width: Measure the length of the curtain pole or track, excluding any finials.

  2. Finished Length (Curtain Drop): Determine the measurement from the very top of the curtain to the bottom.

Measuring the Pole or Track Width

  • For existing installations, simply measure the length of your curtain pole or track.
  • For new installations, measure the width of your window and add the desired curtain stacking space on each side of the window reveal to determine the pole or track width.

Calculating Stack Back

Stack back refers to the space occupied by the curtain when open.

  • For 80mm wave curtains, expect approximately 18cm of stack back per meter of track.
  • For 60mm wave curtains, anticipate approximately 23cm of stack back per meter of track.

Measuring the Finished Length (Curtain Drop)

  • Take left, centre, and right measurements to calculate the finished curtain length (drop).
  • Choose the length that best suits your preferences:
    • Finish at the Sill: Measure from the bottom of the track to the windowsill. Deduct 1cm if you prefer the curtains just above the sill.
    • Finish Below the Sill: Measure from the bottom of the track to your desired length past the sill.
    • Finish Above the Radiator: Measure from the bottom of the track to your desired length above the radiator.
    • Finish at the Floor: Measure from the bottom of the track to the floor. Deduct 1cm for floor clearance.

Installation Considerations

  • Window Mounting: For windows without architraves, position the pole or track at least 10cm above the top of the window.
  • Ceiling Fixing: Measure from the ceiling to the desired curtain finishing point, deducting the depth of the track profile and making adjustments for floor or windowsill clearance.

Final Checks

Before placing your order, ensure the correct identification of the pole/track width and finished length (curtain drop).
